If you wake up between 3:00 AM & 6:00 AM do these 6 things.

In Proverbs 8:17 we read, “Those that seek me early shall find me”

Have you been suddenly awakened between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM? God may be trying to speak to you. You may be one of his chosen Watchmen. In this post we will discuss 6 things to do the next time this happens. Number 6 has had the greatest impact on my life.

The hours between 3:00 AM & 6:00 AM are a time of great spiritual significance also known in scripture as the Fourth Watch of the night, it is a time known for powerful spiritual experiences. It is a time when the world is still and free from distractions. It is a time of peace & quiet when you can hear the “still small voice”  of the Lord. It is often called the “hour of visitation”. There are many examples throughout scripture that speak of the significance of this time frame.

In Mark 1:35 we are taught by the example of Jesus Christ. It reads, “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed”.

Praying in the early morning hours of the Fourth Watch can be a powerful, life changing experience.

If you are awakened between the  hours of 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM, God may be trying to get your attention. God may be trying to connect to you on a higher spiritual level.

The next time you are awakened in the early morning hours of the Fourth Watch, instead of trying to go back to sleep, here are 6 things for you to do. Doing these things has changed my life and I hope they will have an impact on yours.

  1. Give thanks. Start by thanking God for waking you up. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reads “in every thing give thanks”.

  1. Arise. Get out of bed and find a quiet comfortable place where you can pray out loud. Follow the example of Jesus and find a “Solitary place”, free from distractions.

  1. Meditate. Psalms 63:6 reads “When I remember thee on my bed and meditate on thee in the night watches.” Get comfortable, sit quietly for a moment in meditation. Clear your mind and focus on your breath. Close your eyes and imagine light being poured down from heaven upon you. Set aside all thought and make room for the voice of God.

  1. Pray out loud. A whisper is fine, but talk to God as you would talk to a friend. Call upon your Father in Heaven in the Name of Jesus Christ. Ask for forgiveness of your sins. Thank God for the blessings in your life. Ask him to guide and direct you. In 1st Samuel 3:10, Samuels says to God, “Speak, for thy servant heareth”. Ask the Lord what He wants you to know. Let him know you are there to hear him.

  1. Listen. Clear your mind and listen. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts. Give this a little time. Do not rush this step. This is where you can have amazing experiences, receive visitations and obtain direction from God.

  1. Once you have allowed time for God to direct you, thank Him and go back to bed with a prayer that He may influence your dreams. You will find that as you do this, you will discover that your dreams are more vivid and easier to remember. Because you have already rested earlier in the night your mind is now free to dream and be guided by God. Start a dream journal and document your dreams. Like anything else, the more we practice and the more we recognize God’s hand in it, the more God can use it as a source of guidance.

It is my prayer that following these steps the next time you are awakened in the early morning hours,  helps you grow closer to God and helps you answer His call. In James 4:7-10 it reads “Draw nigh unto God and He will draw nigh to you”. May your Fourth Watch experience draw you closer to God and may you recognize His influence in your life. May we all be instruments in His hands to further His work on the earth.
